Financial Analyst I (3-Month Contract)

Job Purpose & Summary

 As part of the Financial Planning & Analysis team the Financial Analyst is responsible for conducting high-level analysis and reporting of financial data to assist management in making critical business decisions, planning, and communicating financial results.

 Supporting the strategic planning process and the development of the company wide annual operating plan, this position will coordinate with the business to gather, analyze, and report information related to targets, profitability, and variances.

 Key Accountabilities & Duties

  •  Assists in the preparation of the Annual Operating Plan (AOP). Coordinates with the business in setting volume targets (loans and deposits) and in establishing operating expense budgets. Assists in the overall consolidation and reporting of the AOP
  • Assists in the preparation of business line and branch profitability reports. Coordinates with the business to collect required information for reporting the profitability of business channels.
  • Prepares monthly Management reports and accompanying schedules, worksheets, and narratives, including “Plan vs. Actual” variance reports. Assists in providing follow-up and documentation of significant variances.
  • Analyzes and interprets financial and accounting reports.
  • Deals with new reporting requirements and assists with development of new reports
  • Monitors revenues and expenditures against the budget to ensure compliance with approved and/or amended budget allocation.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for assigned areas of responsibility and recommends and implements resulting policies and procedures.
  • Supports identifying opportunities to streamline processes, eliminate unnecessary or redundant tasks and to improve governance and oversight with respect to the financial and resource planning process.
  • Assists with month-end closing entries and processes.
  • Performs any other task as required in Finance or as business needs arise

Occupational Experience & Education Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance and/or a combination of education and proven financial analyst experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience in financial analysis work, supporting planning, analysis, and financial reporting
  • Experience in the financial services industry considered an asset
  • Professional Accounting Designation considered an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

  • Proven financial analysis skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, competency with Microsoft Word, experience with databases an asset
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent problem-solving and investigative skills, and the ability to make sound recommendations.
