Job Purpose & Summary

This position is responsible for working with DUCA credit union Members to prepare and present insurance needs analyses (life, disability, critical illness) based on individual financial needs and goals.  In addition, this position is responsible for closing sales, maintaining client files and following up with clients to ensure solutions continue to meet needs as life circumstances evolve.  Key to the role is the cultivation of strong relationships with DUCA branch employees who generate compliant referrals.

The incumbent will be an employee of Qtrade Insurance Solutions and will report to DUCA’s Vice President, Wealth Management. The compensation model for this position includes base salary plus commission.

Key Accountabilities & Duties

  • Train new branch staff and upgrade training of existing branch staff in the delivery of qualified, compliant estate planning referrals for members who are applying for – or already hold – mortgages. Drive a minimum 50% referral rate for estate planning services for members initiating mortgages.
  • Receive and process referrals from branch staff. Provide regular, immediate feedback on referrals, with the intention of improving quality and efficiency, while also reinforcing staff energy and enthusiasm for the referral process.
  • Conduct interviews with members over the phone, identify individual member needs and goals, develop appropriate insurance solutions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Close deals, achieving a minimum 50% close rate on qualified referrals.
  • Become a knowledge expert in term life, disability and critical illness insurance products and services, continually reviewing product developments and enhancements and seeking the optimal cost/benefit solutions for members.
  • Create and maintain immaculate compliance files. Generate Excel-based reports for distribution among branches, to Regional Vice Presidents and DUCA’s Vice President Wealth Management.
  • Attend and participate in trade shows and seminars as required.
  • Stay informed with regard to the latest trends in estate planning and insurance solutions, broad knowledge of the products offered by Canadian insurance issuers, familiarity with industry competitors, current issues and strategies.

Occupational Experience & Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Post secondary education in a related field is considered an asset
  • Level II Life License
  • Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and/or Certified Health Specialist (CHS) would be an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years of industry experience as a financial planner with an insurance specialty.
  • Comfortable with technology
    • Excel reporting
    • Web-based applications for submitting & processing insurance deals
    • Web-based calendar system
    • Learning & regularly using a CRM program for contacts & compliance records

Working Conditions

This is a work-at-home opportunity.  In addition to occasional branch visits, the incumbent must have a home office out of which he/she can work.
