Manager, Retail Credit Analysis

Job Purpose & Summary

The Manager, Retail Credit Analysis supports the Retail Credit Leadership Team by monitoring, analyzing, evaluating and recommending changes to Retail Credit policies, procedures, products and programs. 

The Manager, Retail Credit Analysis will develop a sound knowledge of existing Retail Credit policy, programs and procedures.  The Manager, Retail Credit Analysis will apply a disciplined approach and methodology when assessing and analyzing new or amended policies, procedures, products or programs.  This position will work closely with DUCA senior management, external partners, insurers and regulators.

Key Accountabilities & Duties

Policy (30%)

  • In conjunction with the Vice President, Retail Credit, update and validate changes to the Retail Credit Risk policies, procedures, and systems
  • Work with key stakeholders to conduct analysis and make recommendations for changes to the Retail Credit risk policy and/or procedures
  • Work with key stakeholders to conduct analysis and make recommendations on the design, scope and requirements of any new Retail Credit products or special lending programs
  • Work with key stakeholders, government, regulators and/or insurers to conduct analysis and make recommendations for changes to the Retail Credit risk policy, procedures, products and special programs based on government, regulatory or insurer changes

Analytics (30%)

  • Responsible for providing effective credit risk analysis to aid in the development and implementation of strategies, scorecards, monitoring and guidance for our Retail Credit portfolio at a tactical level.
  • Experience working with external models and the ability to customize them as required to DUCAs requirements
  • Create, review and validate models and their ongoing performance, as required, as well as policies and procedures that support the models for Retail Credit Risk
  • Conduct analysis to determine the impact of various factors including geographical differences, rate shifts, delinquency rates and other changes to requirements for retail lending from governmental agencies, regulators, or insurers to determine the potential impact on the performance of the Retail Credit portfolio for DUCA
  • Use DUCA’s core banking system, Loan Origination System and other systems to generate information and extract data for analysis
  • Conduct complex quantitative analysis, including modelling, to identify gaps and recommend changes to DUCA’s Retail Credit policies, procedures, products and programs
  • Proactively analyze the Retail Credit portfolio and respective credit risk strategies to improve and optimize portfolio performance based on various scenarios impacting the portfolio.
  • Source public information on other financial institutions such as retail portfolio performance and loss experience

Relationship Management (10%)

  • Collaborate with the technology team for the creation, modification and implementation of Retail Credit Risk models and processes.
  • Partnering, collaborating and working on various initiatives across functional teams to develop and automate credit models where possible
  • Collaboration with other DUCA businesses as required such as commercial, treasury and the retail front-line network

Independent Reviews (15%)

  • Prepare ongoing scheduled and ad hoc reviews of Retail Credit policies, processes, products and special programs for the Retail Credit Leadership Team
  • Prepare ongoing scheduled and ad hoc reviews of retail credit portfolios, delinquency and recoveries for the Retail Credit Leadership Team
  • Support other ad hoc and ongoing initiatives from time to time such as stress testing, rating agency reviews, audits, etc. Assess compliance of models and policies and procedures with applicable minimum requirements as set out by our regulator

Reporting (15%)

  • Under the guidance of the Vice President, Retail Credit undertake other activities, as required, including substantive testing, preparation of reports and/or presentations for senior management and external regulators.
  • Develop and maintain, a scheduled inventory of financial, operational, and compliance control reporting

Occupational Experience & Education Requirements

  • MBA or business equivalent preferred. Post-secondary education or equivalent experience a quantitative field preferred in economics, statistics, mathematics, or related field.
  • 3-5 years retail/consumer credit experience, including exposure to both the prime, and subprime markets
  • Experience monitoring, modifying and maintaining retail credit policies, guidelines and procedures. Exposure to these activities during a major shift in regulatory or policy changes considered an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

  • Experience running queries (SQL, SAS) in various systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Proficiency in SQL, fluency with financial formulas and pivot tables
  • Experience with quantitative coding an asset
  • Knowledge of relevant government, insurer and regulatory requirements for retail lending and related consumer products
  • Experience with best practices in retail credit risk management and governance frameworks, methodologies and processes
  • Ability to work across functions in a collaborative manner
  • Ability to analyze complex and diverse information (internal and external data sources)
  • Strong communication and presentation skills – able to communicate and present complex analysis and research needed for policy decisions to senior leadership
  • Capacity to cope with a high degree of ambiguity and change
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy of produced results
