Job Purpose & Summary

The AVP, Commercial Finance will be responsible for independently developing new business and managing a deposit and loan portfolio and Member relationships, in both term and construction financing, as well as helping DUCA achieve its risk objectives and financial targets.

The role will develop a well-respected and identified in-market brand for DUCA aligned with our values and Member ownership.

Key Accountabilities & Duties

  • Develop and maintain a profitable commercial real estate portfolio of complex loans valued between $1MM-$30MM which include term real estate loans, construction financing for hotels and participations in loans led by other credit unions or FIs.
  • Oversee DUCA’s Cash Management initiatives as they relate to deposit gathering for key strategic sectors, such as the Condominium and M.U.S.H sectors
  • Manage the Account Opening Team who will be responsible for opening all Commercial and Small Business accounts for Commercial Banking and our Branch network
  • Source new deposit relationships and loan applications by soliciting existing and potential clients and other financial intermediaries.
  • Support the Branch Network is meeting the needs of their Business Members from a day to day operations and account management.
  • Review and underwrite credit applications providing products and services which meet the clients’ needs while adhering to DUCA’s lending policies and practices.
  • Actively monitor the loan portfolio to ensure accounts are operating as authorized and take measures necessary to remedy non-performing assets internal lending metrics are met on a consistent basis
  • Represent DUCA at community, business networking, and trade association events

Occupational Experience & Education Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in business, finance, or related area, and/or MBA and/or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in small business lending, commercial lending, relationship management, cash management and/or commercial risk management
  • 8+ years’ people management experience
  • Exposure to syndicated and/or shared commercial financing
  • Sales management experience required
  • Senior level leadership experience preferred
  • Business casing experience preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite with strong knowledge of Excel.

  • Familiarity with mid-market commercial and real estate related financing

  • Strong commitment to building DUCA’s Commercial Banking brand in the GTA and surrounding markets
  • High level of analytical, credit assessment, and underwriting skills
  • Balanced focus on profitability, portfolio growth, and asset quality
  • Proven abilities in coaching, mentoring, and individual employee development towards consistent performance and sales results
  • Strong interpersonal, partnership, and collaboration skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and meet tight or conflicting priorities
  • Ability to manage complexity and the requirement to conform with regulatory, legal, and ethical rules and norms
