Job Summary

As partners, DUCA Financial Services Credit Union Ltd. and Qtrade Financial Group provide a fully comprehensive wealth management offering that encompasses a holistic Member-centric experience delivered through a network of leading financial and investment professionals. The Wealth Advisor will be a DUCA employee but will participate in the QTrade compensation program/structure. 

Reporting to the VP, Wealth Management, the Wealth Advisor provides investment and financial planning advice, and consolidation of investment assets through two broad groups of activity. Firstly, the Wealth Advisor is directly responsible for gathering investment assets through investment and financial planning advice to clients/Members. Secondly, the Wealth Advisor will regularly meet with their Members to retain assets and assist with retirement plans and financial plans. The Wealth Advisor will work in close collaboration with the retail branch network and Investment Advisors to ensure Members are receiving the necessary advice and ongoing service. Furthermore, Wealth Advisors are responsible for helping clients in multiple branch locations in DUCA’s West GTA Region.

This role offers the Wealth Advisor the opportunity to utilize their advisory and selling skills with clients, and their relationship development skills with retail bankers and Branch Managers in a model that is unique in the credit union industry in Canada.     

Key Accountabilities & Duties

  • Manage a portfolio of high-value mutual fund clients at multiple branches with the focus of positive net sales annually through advisory sales and financial planning with DUCA members
  • Build collaborative working relationships and teamwork with branch staff to identify current and potential clients with investment and financial planning needs
  • Collaborate with Investment Specialists and Investment Advisors to ensure clients are receiving comprehensive financial planning  
  • Use financial planning tools to develop plans and recommendations to meet members’ investing / financial planning goals 
  • Drive asset consolidation among members by helping them to implement the recommended financial plan within the credit union
  • Actively build investment and product knowledge as well as advisory capability in branch colleagues to support achievement of their sales and client acquisition targets
  • Become an integral member of the Branch sales team by creating value for the Credit Union Branch staff by conducting regular information sessions/seminars
  • Identify and assist in developing opportunities for retail banking products and services with Credit Union branch partners 

Occupational Experience & Education Requirements

  • Completion of the Canadian Investment Funds Course (CIFC), Investment Funds in Canada Course (IFC), or Canadian Securities Course (CSC)
  • Qualified to be MFDA registered
  • Personal Financial Planner (PFP) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation, or working towards completion of PFP or CFP
  • Expert knowledge of the investment industry, products, and the principles of investment advice / financial planning
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Financial Planning / Investment Sales
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree, ideally in Commerce, Business Administration or related experience

Working Conditions

Regular travel will be required between assigned branches and/or offsite to meet members.
