Systems Engineer

DUCA is looking for a Systems Engineer to join our growing team! 

Job Purpose & Summary

The Systems Engineer will support the build, deployment, maintenance, and monitoring of DUCA’s information technology systems and processes, comprised of physical and cloud hypervisor platforms, virtualized servers and applications, network switches and firewalls, directory services, storage devices, and public cloud SaaS. This role will contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment.

Key Accountabilities & Duties

• Install, upgrade, and manage platforms, tools, and other hardware and software solutions that form the technology infrastructure of the organization – servers & applications, physical & virtualized technology infrastructure, switches, firewalls, storage, network services, directory services, anti-malware, threat protection, and authentication services.
• Assist with the deployment, maintenance and monitoring of infrastructure solutions considering both on premise and public cloud platforms (VMware, AWS, & Azure).
• Ensure deployed solutions integrate efficiently and seamlessly with the broader infrastructure technology stack, also maintaining security, compliance, and resiliency requirements.
• Manage backup and replication operations and assist in implementing processes for data protection, disaster recovery, failover, and high availability.
• Establish & document configuration and operational processes for infrastructure maintenance & troubleshooting, providing skills and process transfer to operational focused roles such as systems administrators.
• Share knowledge and collaborate with team members including engineers, administrators, and IT support analysts.
• Work with 3^rd party vendors to implement new solutions and support existing infrastructure.
• Provide 3^rd Level Support for internal customers and Helpdesk employees, and identify trends and root causes in recurring or significant issues, recommending solutions.
• Perform other IT-related duties as assigned.

Occupational Experience & Education Requirements

• 3+ years experience working as a systems administrator, network administrator, or DevOps engineer
• 5+ years experience working in the information technology field
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience
• Experience building and managing server, storage and network technologies in a hybrid cloud, enterprise business environment
• Assets include:
• Microsoft, AWS, VMware, Cisco, Palo Alto, and/or ITIL certifications
• Experience implementing and upholding ITIL process standards including Incidents, Requests, Asset and Change Management
• Experience with VMware VCF components (SDDC manager, vRealize/Aria Suite, NSX-T)
• Experience with Palo Alto (Panorama) administration
• Experience with (Cisco Catalyst) administration
• Experience with enterprise-level backup and recovery tools including Commvault Metallic and VMware Live Recovery
• Experience with financial systems and software

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

• Independent contributor with the ability to self-organize as well as work with a team for specific projects and initiatives
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization
• Good organization, prioritization, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines
• Planning, critical thinking, and design skills and ability to liaise with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems in a virtualized environment
• Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) with demonstrated experience
• Knowledge of Microsoft technologies/products including Microsoft Windows Server, SQL Server, and Microsoft 365 (Intune, Purview & Defender, Azure AD/Entra ID, Exchange Online)
• Knowledge VMware VCF/vSphere, AWS, & Azure platforms in deployment and administrative capacities
• Understanding of TCP/IP networking and ability to troubleshoot and configure OSI layer 2 (VLANs, ACLs, link aggregation), layer 3 (BGP routing), and firewall policies and rules
• Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information

Working Conditions

This position will require the ability to travel within the GTA. It will also require occasional evening and weekend work, sometimes with little advanced notice.

Salary: The annual salary range for this position is $64,023 to $80,029.  Actual annual base salaries will vary depending on relevant job-related factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and education/training. This position may be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
