Account Manager, Specialized Lending 

DUCA is looking for an Acount Manager, Specialized Lending to join out dynamic team!

Job Purpose & Summary

The Account Manager, Specialized Lending completes annual reviews of commercial and personal credits, providing reasonable assurance that all of DUCA’s credit risk policies, procedures and regulatory guidelines are being met.  The incumbent will establish an area of excellence and specialization in the reviews area, working closely with DUCA internal and external partners.

In addition, the Account Manager will prepare credit requests for new transactions and/or increases in Margin Secured Lines of Credit (MSLOCs) and Investment Loans (IL), working with dependent investment and insurance advisors to drive new business in ILs and MSLOCs and will take on account and relationship management responsibility for a growing loan portfolio.  

Key Accountabilities & Duties

  • Gather all necessary information from advisors &/or other relevant parties (dealers, insurance companies) to complete annual reviews within established timelines
  • Complete annual reviews of commercial and personal credit transactions within the Specialized Lending unit, specifically MSLOCs and Immediate Financing Arrangements (IFAs), providing reasonable assurance that all of DUCA’s credit risk policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines are being met
  • Establish an area of excellence and specialization in the reviews area, working closely with other Specialized Lending team members, Credit Risk and Funding teams and also with external, independent advisors, with a view to continual improvement of quality and efficiency
  • Prepare credit submissions emanating from advisor relationships and through relationships developed by the VP Sales, Specialized Lending products, consistent with DUCA’s Specialized Lending policies and underwriting guidelines
  • Initiate, develop, and grow a profitable Specialized Lending portfolio of loans, consisting of MSLOCs and ILs
  • Manage all aspects of advisor relationships for assigned portfolio; educate advisors, solve problems, recommend solutions, and ensure advisors have an experience of excellence when engaging with DUCA Specialized Lending
  • Regularly reach out to advisors to drive sales, working through existing networks of advisors and also to new leads
  • Fulfill service and timeframe expectations relative to all aspects of deal approvals as well as providing immediate instruction and explanation around any declines; meet established service level and operational excellence standards
  • Write professional credit applications which fulfill the requirements of Credit Risk; maintain strong understanding of DUCA’s Credit Policy and keep abreast of changes 

Occupational Experience & Education Requirements

  • Completion of university degree in Business, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience in individual and/or corporate lending, relationship management, or credit adjudication
  • Experience working with independent advisors to offer and deliver Specialized Lending solutions to clients an asset.
  • Chartered Financial Planner designation an asset
  • Completion of Investment Funds Institute of Canada or Canadian Securities Course courses an asset
  • Past or present Level I or Level II Life License, Chartered Life Underwriter and/or Certified Health Specialist &/or Tax & Estate Planning Practitioner an asset
  • Bilingual (English/French) an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

  • Firm grasp of lending credit principles and financial industry regulatory environment in relation to credit products
  • Detailed knowledge of permanent insurance (whole life and universal life) policies, with ability to read and understand insurance and IFA illustrations and policy summaries an asset
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the confidence, credibility, and ability to work effectively within the organization
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills, sufficient to reshape thinking and decisions while responding to underlying concerns and multiple interests
  • Problem solving and issue resolution skills
  • Excellent ability to work remotely in a team environment with little supervision; and to organize, prioritize and manage multiple assignments, meeting deadlines with efficiency and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to use MS Office (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Working Conditions

Regular office environment.  Incumbent must be able to attend team meetings at the Kitchener office at least once per quarter.

Salary: The annual salary range for this position is $69,000 to $87,445. Actual annual base salaries will vary depending on relevant job-related factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and education/training. This position is also eligible for discretionary bonuses.
