Job Summary

Reporting to the VP, Wealth Management, the Investment Specialists drive the provision of investment and financial planning advice and the consolidation of investment assets through two broad groups of activity. Firstly, Investment Specialists are directly responsible for gathering investment assets through investment and financial planning advice to DUCA members. Secondly, Investment Specialists will work in close collaboration with retail bankers and their managers to develop their expertise in providing investment advice / solutions to DUCA members, and spotting opportunities for more complex planning and investment solutions. Working together, retail bankers will introduce Investment Specialists to DUCA members who are in need of investment advice, or financial planning, in order to develop and implement the right solutions while also fostering the continuing relationship between the retail bankers and their members. This role offers the Investment Specialist the opportunity to utilize their advisory and selling skills with DUCA members, and their relationship development skills with retail bankers and managers in a model that is unique in the credit union industry in Canada.     

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meet personal investment sales targets through advisory sales and financial planning with credit union members
  • Build collaborative working relationships and teamwork with branch staff to identify current and potential members with investment and financial planning needs
  • Gain introductions to members and identify their current portfolio and investment needs
  • Use financial planning tools to develop plans and recommendations to meet the members investing / financial planning goals
  • Drive asset consolidation among members by helping members to implement the recommended financial plan within the credit union
  • Actively build investment and product knowledge as well as advisory capability in branch colleagues to support achievement of their sales and member acquisition targets
  • Become an integral member of the Branch sales team by creating value for Branch staff by conducting regular information sessions/seminars
  • Identify and assist in developing opportunities for retail banking products and services with CU branch partners
  • Use time management and organizational skills to provide superior coverage and service to multiple internal partners
  • Keep abreast of market conditions/trends, competitors offerings, and changes to regulation compliance procedures and products

Minimum Skills and Qualifications

  • Canadian Securities Course, CPH, have been or able to be IIROC registered
  • Personal Financial Planner (PFP) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation
  • Expert knowledge of the investment industry, products, and the principles of investment advice /  financial planning
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Financial Planning / Investment Sales
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree, ideally in Commerce, Business Administration or related experience
  • A successful track record in asset gathering through advising retail investors
  • Superior sales abilities (active listening, identifying business opportunities, influencing & negotiating, asking for the business)

Please note: Regular travel will be required between assigned branches and/or offsite to meet members / clients.
