Senior Systems Administrator
DUCA is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to join our growing team!
Job Purpose & Summary
The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining, upgrading and supporting DUCA's information technology infrastructure systems and processes, ensuring they align with the organization's standards and strategies. This position will also act as a primary escalation point for second-level help desk support and provide guidance to the Technical Support Analysts in resolving technology related issues, as well as participate as required in project-based initiatives concerning DUCA's IT infrastructure components and solutions.
The Senior Systems Administrator also provides coordination and functional guidance to peers about system administration and ensures that knowledge sharing is upheld. This role will also provide insights and learnings from resolving infrastructure issues and configuration improvement to assist department in further developing operational improvements and the DUCA's IT roadmap.
Key Accountabilities & Duties
Administer and support (install, configure, test, maintain) server and endpoint operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
Manage and monitor alerting, inventory and reporting for endpoint devices and their configuration states, and respond to error indicators, failures and alerts.
Implement and maintain patching processes and schedules for security hardening, with input and direction from the Cybersecurity team.
Administer user rights and access to network, data and application resources while maintaining the highest levels of security and process compliance.
Manage the domain environment, including Active Directory and Entra ID, Group Policy and Certificates.
Maintain and monitor health status and readiness of the backup and disaster recovery environments, and participate in disaster recovery exercises.
Develop and maintain documentation for configurations and processes, and provide feedback for solution improvements.
Assist with project-based IT Infrastructure initiatives where required.
Work with 3rd party vendors to support existing infrastructure where required.
Provide 2nd level support for internal customers and Helpdesk employees, and identify trends and root causes in recurring or significant issues, recommending solutions.
Perform other IT-related duties as assigned.
Occupational Experience & Education Requirements
3+ years experience working as a Systems Administrator or equivalent role.
5+ years experience working in the information technology field. Experience with financial systems and software, an asset.
Post-secondary education in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
Microsoft, AWS, VMware, Cisco, Palo Alto, and/or ITIL certifications, an asset.
Experience administering and maintaining a VMware virtualized server environment with Windows and Linux servers
Experience administering and maintaining a Public Cloud or Hybrid Cloud server environment. Enterprise-level backup and recovery tool (Commvault Metallic, VMware VCDR or SRM) experience, an asset.
Experience imaging, deploying, upgrading and supporting Windows 10/11 workstations.
Experience establishing and/or upholding patch management processes including security releases, version upgrades, and system image lifecycles.
Experience using and configuring ITSM solutions (ServiceNow, Fresh Service).
Experience with Palo Alto Firewalls and Cisco Layer 2 & 3 Switches.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
Strong organization, prioritization, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical ability.
Proficient with current Microsoft 365 technologies (Entra ID/Azure AD, Windows Hello for Business & FIDO2 Password-less Auth, Exchange Online, InTune MDM Compliance & Management, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams).
Fluent administrative capacity in VMware environment and tools, including vSphere/vCenter and VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery or VMware Site Recovery Manager.
Experience in installing and supporting various application servers, operating systems and domain services.
Good understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, including BGP routing, VLANs, ACLs, and network services including DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
Self-motivated and take the initiative to identify and address issues and needs.
Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
Experience implementing and upholding ITIL process standards including Incidents, requests, asset and change management, an asset.
Experience with public cloud management (AWS, Azure), an asset.
Experience with PowerShell and creating/maintaining scripts, an asset.
Working Conditions
Ability to travel to DUCA’s branches as required with the ability to transport switches, power supplies, laptops, etc. when needed.
Driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.

Salary: The annual salary range for this position starts at $62,158. Actual annual base salaries will vary depending on relevant job-related factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and education/training. Depending on the position, DUCA’s total compensation package may include incentive compensation tied to company and individual performance or other benefits.
